Rob and I took a good slow run and decided to spend the early part of the day hanging out with the girls. We also wanted to see the end of the Tour De France. Well done Chris Froome and Team SKY!
After a bit of chilling, we got the girls loaded and drove a short distance to an area we had discovered on one of our runs. We had noticed several dog owners playing with their pups in a grassy area right along the shoreline. We took a closer look and noticed that the pups also had access to the water. The Hudson isn't the cleanest river for recreation but these dogs seemed to be having a grand time of it.
Penny Lane loves to swim so we figured this was a rare opportunity for her to swim in the city. Another pet owner was even kind enough to let us borrow a ball.

We let the girls have a good play and then headed back to Lewis. Penny needed to be hosed down since the Hudson is quite salty. Annie wanted nothing to do with any of this activity but she also got a good cleanup.
Lewis was nice and cool inside so we got the girls settled and headed for the water taxi that would take us to Lower Manhattan.
After we had boarded and started moving across the water, Rob and I both overheard the Captain say to one of the assistants "Make sure you watch my starboard side. I got no radar." Rob and I just looked at each other. The river was very busy.
So many boats were moving up and down the Hudson while the taxi and other ferries were moving right across. "I got no radar" is not what you want to hear but..... The ride proved to be bumpy but uneventful. The approach offers a beautiful view of One World Trade Center.
We decided to just start walking. We headed north and were planning to check out The High Line.
The High Line (also known as the High Line Park) is a 1.45-mile-long (2.33 km) New York City linear park built in Manhattan on an elevated section of a disused New York Central Railroad spur called the West Side Line.[1]Inspired by the 3-mile (4.8-kilometer) Promenade plantée (tree-lined walkway), a similar project in Pariscompleted in 1993, the High Line has been redesigned and planted as an aerial greenway and rails-to-trailspark.[3][4]
I had heard of and read about this area but had never made the time to see it. If you visit NYC, check it out. It is very cool and it offers you a unique view of the streets below. The greenery is beautiful and the entire span of 1.45 miles is so well cared for.

ART TITLED "SMART TREE" IT IS MADE FROM AN ABANDONED SMART CAR SITTING ON CINDER BLOCKS WITH AN APPLE TREE PLANTED IN IT
THE AREA WHERE THE PEOPLE TO THE LEFT ARE WALKING IS PART OF THE HIGH LINE. THE PENN STATION TRAIN LOT IS TO THE RIGHT. MY GUESS IS THAT THE HIGH LINE IS A COUPLE OF STORIES HIGH
RANDOM TOURIST HELICOPTER?
By the time we finished the High Line, we had been walking for a couple of hours. We decided to walk in a couple of blocks and get some relief from the sun.
We kept walking until we came to Madison Square Garden and the entrance to Penn Station. Rob wanted to take a taxi back to the Ferry but I wanted to take the Subway. I do not like NYC taxis. They are overpriced and their driving is nauseating.
Penn Station is a bustling and somewhat confusing place for first time visitors. The train options are many and everyone is trying to get somewhere. We quickly found our subway line and headed back to Lower Manhattan and the ferry. We arrived at One World Trade Center and the 911 Memorial. The area is still under a bit of construction but they are getting it done.
I THINK THE SPIRES TO THE LEFT MARK THE ENTRANCE TO THE NEW SUBWAY AT ONE WORLD TRADE CENTER
A VERTIGO INDUCING VIEW
We hustled to the ferry, got our tickets and our ride had just arrived. We made the journey across and returned to camp and the girls. As usual, they acted as though we had been gone for days but a potty walk and a treat leads to forgiveness. Dogs are awesome like that.
We had a light dinner and then we took the dogs for their evening walk. As we were walking back, we stopped to chat with some fellow glampers. We quickly discovered that they were from the town in Alabama where I grew up. Rex and Linda live in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. They were also here to volunteer for the PGA and would be heading to The Ryder Cup in September. Rex also went to College at my Alma Mater The University of North Alabama. It truly is a small world. We had a nice long chat and exchanged information. I will definitely keep in touch with these nice folks.
We were tired but what an amazing Sunday it had been!
Another great day in this thing we call life.
