We had a lot to do Monday to include beginning our way back to VA and Lewis.
Sam has to get a shot in his eye every 12 weeks or so and Monday was that day. I have taken him once and it is brutal. This kind of thing is when it is good that his short term memory is not great. The doctor truly gives him a shot in his eyeball. He has macular degeneration and it is a shot or blindness. A no brainer but still so hard to think that this sweet little 94 year old man has to got through it. He is a trooper and quickly forgets the entire thing. His only concern is stopping at McDonalds to get two hamburgers, fries and a coke. He also does not fret before the appointment because he does not really remember the last one. So, it is about three minutes of you know what and the rest is good.
I got the house prepped for our departure and got laundry done and got it all cleaned for the next visit. Rob was to come by and get me and the girls and we were headed to our lawyer to take care of some long neglected admin stuff. It is the kind of stuff you hate to have to do but it is wrong to not do it. Wills, Powers of Attorney, Trusts etc... We are all up to date and that is a good thing.
We started out at around 2:30 in the afternoon and it is about 860 miles back to Northern VA. We knew we would not make the entire trip so we decided to pick a place to stop for the night. If you are ever traveling with your pets and just need a place for a short sleep, Red Roof Inns are great. They have gone through a nationwide redo of the interiors and will let you stay there with your pets at no additional charge. Most hotels/motels charge anywhere from $50 to $200 to have your pet in the room. Red Roofs are nothing fancy but since the rooms are all new, they do just fine for a night's sleep.
As were nearing our stopping point, Rob mentioned that he was ready to stop for the night and that he was sleepy. I looked at the clock and laughed. It was 9:30 pm. I remarked how it was fascinating that we used to drive all night when we were younger. We would do it and it was easy. He laughed and said "We were living Jesus Take The Wheel....we just did not know it." We had a huge laugh over that. He is probably right.
We got to the hotel, got the dogs out to pee and we went to bed. A good day. Not a fun day but still a good productive day.
