Conditions were so poor that we stopped early to eat, went to Gander Mtn and hung out in the WalMart parking lot.
Roger kept watching his weather tracking devices and we were eventually hustled into the vans and we were off to investigate a weather pattern in southeast Texas.
What an adventure we had!
I have always wanted to watch the birth of a supercell. It is amazing and truly jaw dropping. Our entire group was giddy with excitement. The circulation was a sight to behold and it tried really hard to make its way to the ground. No tornado but no problem....we were thrilled.
A really fun part of this whole experience is truly chasing the storm. We would unload, observe, take pictures and then quickly load and zoom a few miles down back roads to once again unload and watch. We had one episode of trying to get in front of the storm and we were coming to a crossroads. We could see another group of storm chasers approaching perpendicular to our road and we were approaching the crossroad at about the same speed. They had a stop sign and we did not so we had the edge and kept going. Our driver did slow just to make sure the other group was going to stop. I could not help but think of the movie Twister and the nemesis storm chasing group lead by Jonas. Our guide Roger got us perfectly positioned to watch this thing explode. We spent about 1.5 to 2 hours chasing.
When this storm wore itself out, we did some more in and out and got a lightening and hail storm to finish off the day.
We got to our hotel at around 11:30 and a few of us sat in the hotel lobby and enjoyed a glass of wine and discussed the day's adventure.

Another great day in this thing we call life.
