Father's Day, Rob's Birthday and Skype

Our Sunday was quite the day of celebration for Rob.  His birthday and father's day coincide every few years and we are fortunate to be able to celebrate this special time.

This particular day started with coffee and Rob opening a couple of gifts.  He had been talking about wanting a campfire tripod grill to use for cooking right over the campfire.  It is a nifty little device and I managed to order it from Amazon and have it delivered to our campsite in West Virginia.  Keeping it hidden was no short order but he was totally surprised when he opened it.

A GIFT FOR ROB FROM HIS COUSIN SUE.....I LOVE IT!!!

He also got a new Life Is Good t-shirt with a camper and dog on it.  His old one is getting threadbare.

After gifts, we got a real treat and we were able to Skype with Megan in Beijing.  She used her computer to call my computer and we got to chat for over an hour.  She had so many stories to tell!  We got to meet her host sister and her host mom.  They sang happy birthday to Rob.  It was sweet and surreal all at the same time.  Megan is doing so well and it is hard to believe that she has already been there two weeks.
Next on order was a run.  We drove into Mackinaw City and ran around and took in the sights.  The Lakes truly are beautiful.  The water is so clear and the air is nice.  It was warmer than usual for the region but not bad for us.  We noticed a NOAA weather station in the middle of town right by the water.
MY GUESS IS THAT THEY GET SOME SERIOUS RAIN, SNOW, AND COLD TEMPS IN THE WINTER

We followed our run with a great breakfast at Cunningham's Family Restaurant.  It is situated on what looked to be the one Main Street in the town.

After breakfast, we went back to the RV and got the girls out for a walk.  We are a very short distance from the lake and Penny Lane gets very excited when she realizes that is where we are going.  She got another swim and Annie also got a little dip.
DAD AND HIS FURGIRLS

I CANNOT SAY ANNIE BELLE ENJOYED THE SWIM BUT SHE DID COOL DOWN

We let the girls play for a bit and went back to the RV.  We wanted to go to a little town down the road called Cheboygan.  We stopped at a place called the Cheboygan Brewing Company and tried a bit of local craft beer.  We also went to their beach and lighthouse.
I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED PHOTOGRAPHING LIGHTHOUSES.  THEY SEEM SO STOIC AS THEY FACE THE ELEMENTS.

As we were entering Cheboygan, I noticed a place of business that was very practical albeit unusual.
A CAR WASH WITH A DOG WASH ATTACHED TO IT.  NO WORRIES....THE DOG WASH IS NOT EQUIPPED WITH CAR WASH SPRAYERS.  IT IS JUST A VERY NICE PLACE TO BATHE A DOG.  IF YOU HAVE EVER LIVED IN AN APARTMENT, YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT CAN BE TO BATHE A BIG DOG.  DOG WASHES ARE AWESOME!

We got back to Lewis and turned on the US Open.  We enjoy watching golf in person but also love to watch a good match on TV.  The Open did not disappoint.  We watched from our outside television as Rob tried out his new grill.  Penny Lane almost ate our dinner before it got cooked.  Rob left the chops sitting on the picnic table and she got in a few good licks before we realized she had access.  She got a scolding and the chops got moved to higher ground.  Rob just made sure they were well cooked.
We ate outside, cleaned the dishes and decided to take in another sunset.

I WAS MORE INTRIGUED WITH THE LOW FLYING GULLS

AND THE ROWS OF GEESE

HUGE FULL MOON

It is daylight here until 10pm.  We love it.  We have more to explore and the early sunrises and the late sunsets make for gloriously long spans of daylight.

Another great day in this thing we call life.
