Seneca Rocks, West Virginia

I still have not met the pig.  I think she got in trouble for being out and about and is now in confinement.

One of the places Rob had picked for us to explore while we are here is Seneca Rocks.
 Seneca Rocks is a large crag and local landmark in Pendleton County in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, USA. It is the only "true peak" — a peak inaccessible except by technical rock climbing techniques — on the East Coast of the United States.^{[citation needed]} One of the best-known scenic attractions in West Virginia, the sheer rock faces are a popular challenge for rock climbers.
We crossed the Eastern Continental Divide on our drive to the base.

                                          A LITTLE HISTORY ON PENDLETON COUNTY, WV.

  It is a fascinating contrast to the green, rolling hills that surround it.  The hike that takes you near the top left section of one of the peaks is only 1.5 miles but it is fairly steep and has many switchbacks.  Be assured that we did not get near any of the sheer cliff faces.  The trail is very safe with no drop offs.  In the past, some hikers have chosen to try some off trail approaches and have fallen and died.  There are signs alerting against this.  You just cannot fix stupid.  These peaks are used by experienced technical climbers. The words experienced and technical are very important factors.

I CANNOT IMAGINE WHAT THE SOLDIERS THOUGHT AS THEY TRAINED ON THESE PEAKS TO PREPARE FOR WWII.  

For us, the hike was nice and Penny Lane was in heaven.  Annie Belle chose to ride up in the back pack and walk down.  She is smart that way.

I USED MY ZOOM FOR THIS PICTURE.  THE WHITE BUILDING IS A RESTAURANT CALLED THE FRONT PORCH RESTAURANT.  IT HAS BEEN SERVING SINCE 1902.  I WONDER IF ANY OF THE 10TH MTN DIVISION SOLDIERS GOT A BITE THERE?

The hike down was a piece of cake.....even for little Annie.  Penny Lane got to frolic a bit in the water.  We headed back to the RV and opened a bottle of wine and got a fire going.

The resident male peacock made his presence known as we were enjoying our fire and having our wine.  Penny Lane and Annie Belle let him know that he was not welcome.

Seneca Rocks is worth the visit if you are in the area.  West Virginia is wild but it is beautiful.
