Where the Platte River meets Lake Michigan

We are camped fairly close to Lake Michigan and the Platte River.

We decided to do a bit of exploring and found a place where the Platte River runs into Lake Michigan.  There are a couple of companies that rent kayaks, canoes and tubes and they will transport you up the river and then allow you to float down.  Just a bit past where you finish the float, there is an area where a very small bit of beach separates Lake Michigan from the river.
We decided to settle on this bit of beach.
TO THE LEFT IS THE RIVER AND TO THE RIGHT IS THE LAKE.  THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WATER TEMPERATURE WAS STARTLING.

GMAN SOAKING HIS SORE FOOT

TO THE LEFT IS THE SHORELINE OF THE RIVER AND THE WATER IS THE PLATTE RIVER FLOWING OUT.  THE CURRENT IS FAIRLY STRONG BUT THE WATER IS WAIST DEEP.  WE PLAN TO RETURN FOR THE FLOAT TRIP.

The area was busy with folks enjoying themselves but what a decent bunch of beach goers.  No boom boxes or drunks....just a group of humans enjoying an amazing summer day.  Lots of kids but they were all supervised.  I have noticed that residents in this area know how to have a really "good time" without ruining it for everyone else.

We packed our chairs and drinks and went back to the RV.  We had left the girls and Penny Lane was very insulted that we went to the water without her.  Dogs were not allowed on this particular beach and we understood why.  The area was just not big enough.
We cranked up the grill and we were quickly forgiven.  The girls love grill time.  We cooked a bit of meat and I had bought a nice bundle of fresh asparagus.  Rob did an awesome job with both and Penny Lane helped clean the grill area.

We had discovered another beach area that allowed dogs so we got the girls ready and took Penny for an after dinner swim.  She was crazy with excitement and played stick with the greatest of enthusiasm.  Annie Belle just watched her with a look of total disdain.  We took a short walk after to allow Penny to dry a bit before we put her in the car.
WE FOUND A VERY COOL DENSE, DARK TRAIL.  WE DID NOT GO VERY FAIR SINCE ROB'S FOOT IS STILL SORE BUT WE HOPE TO RETURN BEFORE WE LEAVE.

We got back to the RV and it was a gorgeous evening.  Breezy and cool with the frogs and birds just singing away.

Another great day in this thing we call life.
