I packed food and water and the girls got all ramped up. We headed down the Parkway and as we gained elevation, we were socked in by low clouds. Visibility was less that 30 yards. We finally got high enough that we were above the clouds and the view was spectacular!
The hike was listed as strenuous and it definitely was. Not terribly long but a fairly significant elevation gain. Pretty steep at times with some rocks and such to work through. I saw a few new flowers that I am going to add to my FB photo album. We got to the top of Sharp Top and we were treated to yet another amazing view.
Penny and Annie were real troopers. It must have been a really hard climb for little Annie but she made it all the way to the top.
We enjoyed our views for a bit and headed back down. Penny Lane grabbed a hunk of bear poop and I thought Rob was going to freak. He could not believe that "his dog" would try do that. Poor Penny Lane got her mouth washed out when we got to the bottom. Everyone had a good drink of water and a snack and we got back into the car and headed to Bedford, VA.
Most of the fog had lifted and our trip to Bedford was a bit easier. The National D-Day Memorial is located in Bedford, Virginia — the community suffering the highest per capita D-Day losses in the nation. The Memorial honors the Allied forces that participated in the invasion of Normandy on June 6, 1944 during World War II. With its stylized English Garden, haunting invasion tableau, and striking Victory Plaza, the Memorial stands as a powerful permanent tribute to the valor, fidelity, and sacrifice of D-Day participants. The Memorial is encompassed by the names of the 4,413 Allied soldiers who died in the invasion, the most complete list of its kind anywhere in the world.

We returned to our camp and spent the rest of our evening just chilling.
