We had a bit of breakfast and coffee and got our gear together.
I love to ski and am grateful that I get to go but getting all the gear together is a chore. The list of things needed is long. You need a ski coat, ski pants, gloves, good socks, warm clothes to wear under the ski clothes, helmet, skis, boots, goggles and poles.
As we were driving to the mountain, we realized that we had not been skiing without one of the kids in many, many years.
The ride up to the lift area was through a canyon with a creek running along the road. The creek was raging. This area has had a lot of snow and the temps were warm enough today for some melt. This gorgeous waterfall also fed into the creek.
Powder Mountain is only 19 miles from the house so it did not take us too long to get there.
We parked, got our boots on and walked to the ticket area. Powder mountain sells $52 lift tickets to active duty and retired military. That, my friends, is a good deal.
With lift tickets attached, we made our way to the lift. We decided to take a mom and dad selfie and send it to the kids.
SMILE!
The snow was wonderful and there were zero lift lines and crowds. Powder mountain is about 25% beginner (green), 24% intermediate (blue) and the rest is expert(black). We started with a nice long green run and moved on to blues and blacks. The green runs here would be challenging for a beginner. The blues and blacks varied but we had a good time of it.
SEE THAT TINY LITTEL SPECK ON THE SLOPE? THAT IS ROB COMING DOWN A HARD BLACK RUN.
We managed to get in some great skiing and neither of us got injured. That makes for a good day. The air temperature was around 28 and the sun was out. Perfect.
We cut the day a bit shorter than normal because we did not want to leave the girls alone too long.
We got home and the girls were very happy to see us. We got them into their harnesses and went for a nice long walk along the mountain base. We knew that if we waited, we would not want to go out later.
We are in for the evening.
The great thing about getting a house for a trip like this is that we can stay right here and fix something to eat. I do not really like to cook but I do like to get comfortable and just stay in after a busy day.
We will eat, shower and chillax.
Another great day in this thing we call life.
