Packet pick-up was easy and we all got our bibs and shirts and did a bit of looking around. We also snapped a few pictures.
NOTICE THAT THE BIB NUMBERS ARE IN ORDER. I REGISTERED MY THREE BUT CRISTIN AND JAVIER REGISTERED THEMSELVES. GO FIGURE
After we got our packets, we went to a place called Dim Sum garden and had some delicious food. The place was a mad house and they were moving lots of people in and out. We left the garden and went back to the apartment to get the girls and take them for a walk. We wanted to see some of the walkable sights and also do a recon of the start line. Penny Lane, Annie Belle and my dog niece Lola were so happy to be going with us.
THE GUYS WITH THEIR RACE BAGS
THE THINKER
We got a good long walk and even got to see a wedding party come out of one of the big churches and make their way around for various photos. I am sure my butt will be in one of them because I unknowingly walked right in front of the camera. I was hustling across the street with Annie and never saw the guy until I heard the click of a shot being taken.
We got the girls back to the apartment and rested for a bit. Everyone had worked up quite an appetite so we decided to go out for dinner. This area is hopping on a Saturday night. We walked around for a bit and spotted a restaurant called Continental. We decided to give it a try and we were glad we did. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was great.
With dinner done and a race to rest for , we went to the apartment, took the girls for a walk and then everyone turned in.
Race day dawned cloudy with a light breeze. Cristin and I took the pups for a walk since they would be waiting for us in the apartment while we ran the half marathon.
We had our coffee, a bit to eat and we were off to the start line.
We found our corral and then got in line to go to the bathroom. It is always a challenge to time the last potty break before the race starts. We all got that taken care of and waited for the horn to start the race. The race had 15,000 runners so they released us in waves. Our group finally made it to the start and we were off.
LOTS AND LOTS OF HUMANITY
CRISTIN AND JAVIER
We did not try to stay in a group of five but Megan and I settled into a good pace and made our way along the course.
MILE THREE
MILE EIGHT
FINISHED!
The course was good. It was fairly flat and there were a few bands playing music along the way. There was one band of bagpipes and men in kilts. They were rocking!
We also ran past a really old prison. This prison was the first one in the US to use solitary confinement.
CREEPY WITH GARGOYLES AND EVERYTHING
We all finished the race and managed to link up fairly quickly. Rob had a serious bout of cramping so we had to take a few measures to get him back into a state that would allow him to walk back to the apartment.
We arrived and the girls were so happy to see us. There were copious amounts of kisses for everyone and we all just flopped out.
After a bit of rest, we got going on showers and getting ready to find our food reward for such a hard day's run. We went to a place called Parc and had a delicious brunch. Getting up from the table was a bit of an eye opener. Muscles had settled and everyone was getting sore.
Back at the apartment, Cristin and Javier got packed and we helped them get their things in the car. They both have to be back in DC for work tomorrow.
We'd had a wonderful weekend and it just flew by! I am so glad that we planned this and got together. Good fun with good friends.
Another great day in this thing we call life.
