Grand Canyon of PA and you never know who you will meet

Tuesday was a great day to have a look at The Grand Canyon of PA.

Pine Creek Gorge, sometimes called The Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania,^[1] is a 47-mile (76 km) gorge carved into theAllegheny Plateau by Pine Creek in northeastern Pennsylvania.

It sits in about 160,000 acres (650 km²) of the Tioga State Forest. The canyon begins south of Ansonia, near Wellsboro, along U.S. Route 6 and continues south. Its deepest point is 1,450 feet (440 m) at Waterville, near the southern end. AtLeonard Harrison and Colton Point State Parks, it is more than 800 feet (240 m) deep and the distance rim-to-rim is about 4,000 feet (1,200 m).

We arrived at the east rim trail and made our way to Turkey Path.

We had a good look from the top and made our way down the trail.  Penny Lane was beyond excited.  The trail is composed of mostly dirt with some boardwalks and many switchbacks.

When we got to the bottom, Penny got to have a play in the creek.

It is equally beautiful at the bottom of the gorge.

We let Penny Lane have her fill of water time and then started back up the trail.  The ascent was not as hard as we expected so if you are ever in this area, give it a go.

On the way up, we passed a couple and one of them was wearing a Helsinki Marathon t-shirt.  We stopped to chat with them and Rob said that we were running the Philly Rock n Roll half this weekend.  They said that they were also running it.  Go figure.  We are in the boonies hiking and we meet a couple from Helsinki who will be running the same half marathon as us.   You just never know who you will meet.

We made it to the top and the girls were tuckered.  The ride back from a hike is much more peaceful than the ride to a hike.  The amount of car ride, pre-hike anxiety displayed by our dogs is leaning towards the ridiculous.  There is whining, barking, panting and even a bit of drooling on the part of Penny Lane.  It is like they have never been on a car ride or hike in their lives.  I guess they just want to be remembered. They slept like rocks on the way back.

The rest of our evening was very peaceful but we miss Lewis.  Hotel rooms are fine but Motorhomes are freaking awesome.
