Running along the Colorado and Viva Las Vegas

Rob and I got up early Friday morning.  We wanted to go for a run along the Colorado River and we knew the heat would soon prohibit doing that.

The trail that runs along the river has zero shade so early morning or late evening runs seem best.

We drove to the Colorado River Heritage Greenway Trailhead and started running towards Davis Dam.

Davis Dam is a dam on the Colorado River about 70 miles (110 km) downstream from Hoover Dam. It stretches across the border between Arizona and Nevada. Originally called Bullhead Dam, Davis Dam was renamed after Arthur Powell Davis, who was the director of the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation from 1914 to 1923. The United States Bureau of Reclamation owns and operates the dam, which was completed in 1951.

SOME FLOWERS JUST SEEM TO FIND A WAY TO MAKE IT

Our run took us uphill all the way to the dam crossing.  The dam is only accessible by pedestrians or bicycles.  Motorized traffic is prohibited.  My guess is this is a post 911 decision.

Even though we left early, the run was hot and I was a bit drained by the time we got back.

We returned to the RV and spent the rest of the morning with the girls.

We had arranged to meet friends for lunch so we made our way to a Mexican restaurant in Bullhead City.  

We had not seen Jim and Janet for over 25 years.  Rob and Jim served in the Gulf War and they were part of the same group.  After they returned, we all went our separate ways and we had not seen Jim or Janet since. 

We had a great lunch and did lots of catching up.  This is another perk of the motorhome life.  You can see old friends as you travel.

CHEESING IT UP!

After a great visit, we said our goodbyes and made our way back to the RV.  

We spent some time with the girls and then went into Laughlin for a bit of a look around.  Laughlin is pretty much made up of one main road lined with casinos.  It is interesting but not much if you are not one to gamble.  We did not tarry long.

When we got back to the RV, we decided that we would shorten or stay.  It was too hot to be outside and definitely too hot for the dogs.

We got up really early on Saturday and got Penny Lane out for a walk.  It was going to be a moving day and she rides better if she is exercised.  Annie Belle was content to sleep in.

We were headed to Las Vegas and it was only 100 miles away.  I love short travel days.  

Our trip was easy.  We had the sun behind us for most of the trip and the weather was beautiful.

As we neared Boulder City, we passed a HUGE solar field.  The field is called Solar One and covers hundreds of acres.  If you get it a chance, look it up.  The power stats are remarkable.

We arrived at Las Vegas Motorcoach Resort and got checked in.  The Resort is beautiful and will offer us a nice place to stay for the week.  We have plans to explore Vegas and some areas outside of the city.

HOME FOR THE WEEK

It is now Sunday morning.  Rob and I have been for a run and are taking it easy until time for Brunch.  The resort offers a free Mother's Day brunch.

We are sitting outside a combination of shade and breeze.  Penny Lane has already been in timeout for barking at passersby.

HER TIME OUT WAS VERY EFFECTIVE.  SHE HAS NOT BARKED SINCE

Happy Mother's Day to all the ladies out there who have nurtured.  There are all kinds of moms in this world.

Another great day in this thing we call life.
