Moving Day and Bryce Canyon National Park

Tuesday was moving day.

We'd had a really good stay at Lake Powell.  It is very peaceful, the campground is really good and there are many things to do.

We got Lewis and Clark ready and got going.  Our destination was Bryce Canyon National Park.  We knew we had a fairly short, hilly, back road trek so we did not tow.

Bryce Canyon National Park, a sprawling reserve in southern Utah, is known for crimson-colored hoodoos, which are spire-shaped rock formations. The park’s main road leads past the expansive Bryce Amphitheater, a hoodoo-filled depression lying below the Rim Trail hiking path. It has overlooks at Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, Inspiration Point and Bryce Point. Prime viewing times are around sunup and sundown.

Rob got to drive Lewis through a couple of natural stone arches.  Even though we get signs noting max height, we still duck our heads a bit when we drive through things like this.

We got to our campground and got checked in.  We are staying at the Ruby Inn Campground.  It is only about1.5 miles to the entrance of Bryce and it offers full services.  Our site is huge.

Once we got settled, we took the girls for a walk around the campground and then Rob and I decided to take a drive to recon the park.  We wanted to figure out what our options were for hiking and such.

Bryce is spectacular.  The hoodoos mentioned in the descriptive paragraph are fascinating.

We plan to hike from the rim down into this hoodoo field on Thursday.   

We also drove to a few points of note.  Bryce Point, Sunrise Point and Sunset Point.  All three of these easily walkable points offer beautiful views of the hoodoos and the valleys far below.  

After we got a good feel for the layout of the park, we stopped at the lodge and had a bit of dinner.  The lodge is only a bit rustic and the restaurant is very nice.  The food was delicious and the service was really good.  

We returned to the RV and spent the rest of the evening with our pups.  We were excited for what the next few days had to offer.
