Our friends Cristin and Javier were getting married and we had been invited. We'd had the trip on the books for many months and it was hard to believe that it was time to fly and celebrate.
Penny Lane and Annie Belle were left in the good hands of Carol. Carol is Sam's part time care taker and she is staying at the house. The girls looked very sad when we left but we know they will be just fine.
We drove to Orlando and made our way to the Southwest terminal. Southwest offers a nonstop to San Juan and I will say it was a good flight. The landing was a little bit of a roller coaster but my guess is that island landings are just prone to be windy.
Our friends had arranged for us to be picked up and our driver whisked us away and to the Caribe Hilton. It sits right on the water and the view is gorgeous.
We got checked in and decided to go for a run. There was a really nice promenade that ran above and along the ocean. It was hot but there was a bit of a wind to keep us cooled just a bit.
VIEW OF OUR HOTEL FROM THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BAY
THE SEA IS FAIRLY ROUGH TODAY
BEAUTIFUL RUN
We made our way towards Old San Juan and plan to explore that area tomorrow. We got to what we believe is the Old Fort and decided to turn and head back to the hotel. We were running through a park and I heard a rustling in the trees. My first thoughts were "there must be a squirrel in the tree." I stopped for a second and got a bit of a surprise.
THIS VERY LARGE IGUANA WAS MOVING ALONG THE LOW BRANCHES. I HAD TO STOP AND SNAP A PICTURE.
We got back to the hotel and we were in dire need of water. We went towards the pool area and decided that the seaside bar could accommodate our need for water and a cold beer. The atmosphere was just perfect. Lots of people milling around, sitting in the pool and just enjoying the weather. We found ice water and beer and spent a bit of time just soaking it all in.
We took a bit of a stroll and got a closer look at the water that was accessible to us. There is a lovely bay that allows guests to swim without concerns for rip tide. There was a bit of a boardwalk to go out over the water and view the many beautiful fish. I cannot wait to go back tomorrow and have a better look.
NO SWIMMING HERE BUT GORGEOUS
SURFING PIGEON?
Our day is not over.
We are now getting ready for the rehearsal dinner.
Tomorrow will be a day to explore.
It is looking good so far.
Another great day in this thing we call life.
