We needed to get back to the house in Cocoa Beach. There was some cleanup to do and Rob's dad has an eye appointment coming up.
The RV camp where we stayed was really nice. It was starting to show signs of the migration of snow birds. We could tell that some folks were there for the winter by the way they had set up. There were Halloween decorations at some sites and lots of things to make a site homey. I cannot see us spending a winter there but I can see why it appeals to some.
The camp was an easy walk to the beach but not to a dog beach. PCB has one small stretch of beach that allows dogs. It is between access points 56 and 57. They do a great job of marking all the public beach access points. We were near 32 so we loaded Penny Lane and took a ride.
As we got close, she seemed to sense that there might be a swim in her near future. She got very loud and excited when we stopped.
We made our way to the boardwalk and then she saw the ocean. Let the fun began.
HAPPY DAD, HAPPY DOG
COWABUNGA!
CRYSTAL CLEAR
The water was very clear and fairly calm. Waves would break in sets and Penny Lane would attack them with vigor. She would then rest until the next set. She was even able to get in deep enough to swim a bit. I would typically not allow her to get that deep in the ocean. I always have the thought of sharks in the back of my mind.
We let Penny Lane play and play. We had to decide it was time to go and we took her up the boardwalk and to the outdoor shower. She was not aware that a bath was part of the bargain but her fur was loaded with sand and salt water so a bath was in order. She got a good wash, a short drying walk and then we went back to Lewis. We had left Annie in the RV and she let us have it when we got back. She hates the beach but dog logic does not really go that far. We left, took her sister, and did not take her. I hope Penny Lane told her where we were and that she would not have liked it.
We got the girls settled and walked back to the local beach access and just chilled for a bit. It was lovely to sit on our beach chairs and just enjoy some sun and a good book.
We finished our day with a sit outside dinner and a nice walk.
We were on the road by 0530 Friday morning. We were intent on getting to Cocoa Beach. Our drive went really well and as were meandering along the Florida Panhandle, I noticed this.
BRAS, BRAS, AND MORE BRAS
We started going along a fairly long bridge. My guess is that it was at least 1.5 miles long. I saw something running along the railing and realized it was a bra. Not just a bra, but hundreds and hundreds of bras. I first thought it was some local tradition but then recognized it as a Breast Cancer Awareness thing. What a great way to get someone's attention! The bras were strung along the entire span of the bridge. Well done folks!
We got Lewis to his parking area and got him settled. We thought we would have a power access point to plug him in to keep the fridge running but that was not to be. We made an unplanned emptying of the refrigerator and freezer and dashed to the house to keep everything frozen.
We arrived at the house to find things looking pretty darn good. The hurricane had really done a number on many other places but it had just made a bit of a mess here. Our pier may be a goner and we have more cleanup but we cannot complain.
We got the food in the refrigerator and I made home made pizza for dinner.
We decided on a walk and got a nice post sunset view of the river.
Another great day in this thing we call life.
