Moving Day and Yellowstone National Park

We decided to leave River's Edge a day early.  The camp itself is nice but the location was just unnerving.  Sitting below a huge earthen dam listening to water gushing through the spillways was distracting.  We had also found that the area was not great for hiking if the weather was too warm.

We were not due to leave until Thursday so we did not rush our Wednesday.  I had found a local groomer and took Penny Lane for a much needed bath and haircut.  This particular groomer also offered Blueberry Facials.  Needless to say, Ms. Penny came back exfoliated, beautifully trimmed and smelling lovely.  I should have asked if she had a two for one offer.(I have never had a facial)

Rob stayed back with Annie and when we were all reunited,  we packed up and moved out.  The trip out of Heber City/Park City was beautiful.  The passes through the mountains were spectacular and the rivers were still flowing at very high volumes.

We were headed to Yellowstone National Park and the drive was longer than we wanted to do in a single day.  We had intentionally started late and we try to never arrive at a new site after dark.  As Rob drove, I did a search and located a small RV park that was attached to a Casino property.  I called and got us a full service spot.  We arrived, did a basic set up and settled in for the evening.

Thursday would take us all the way to our camp site near West Yellowstone, Montana.  We are staying at Yellowstone Holiday RV Park.  The camp sits on a huge, beautiful lake and we have an excellent lake view site with mountains in the background.  We are about 15 minutes from the west entrance of Yellowstone park.  It is incredibly peaceful.

We got moved in and took a bit of  a rest before loading the girls and heading to Yellowstone Park.  We wanted to take a drive and have a look around.

The park is really lovely this time of year.  The trees and grasses are beautifully green and the rivers are flowing fast and clear.

 We were treated to quite a few wildlife sightings.  Penny Lane went absolutely nuts when she saw the elk and buffalo.  She never saw the coyote.

THIS GUY APPEARED TO BE HUNTING RODENTS.  HE KEPT PRESSING HIS TWO FRONT FEET INTO THE GROUND AND JAMMING HIS SNOUT INTO THE GRASS

THIS HERD DECIDED TO WALK DOWN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND CAUSE A SEVERAL MILE LONG TRAFFIC STOP.

We stopped and let Penny get a bit of a swim before heading to Old Faithful geyser.  I think most have heard of Old Faithful.  The geyser is a bit of a tourist mecca.  It constantly spews steam and periodically erupts steam and boiling water as much as 145 feet into the air.

Most of Yellowstone is no dogs allowed but they can be on paved areas and within 100 feet of sidewalks and such.  The area around Old Faithful has a lodge, restaurant and gift shop so we could observe the geyser and have the girls with us.

We decided to start back towards the RV and the drive out was equally enjoyable.  The traffic jam caused by the herd of buffalo did nothing to daunt our enthusiasm.  The evening air was cool and crisp and the steam rising from the hydrothermal fields made for beautiful scenes.

We got back to our site just before dark and sat outside to watch the full moon rise into the night sky.

Another great day in this thing we call life.
