Moving Day and exploring Park City Utah

We were on the move again.

Sunday was a travel day and we were headed to River's Edge RV Park.  River's Edge is located in Heber City, Utah which is just down the road from Park City.

Bryce Canyon was remarkable.  We have had the privilege and pleasure of seeing many things in this country and I will say that Bryce nears the top of our list of "places worth the trip".  We found it to be as jaw dropping amazing as The Grand Canyon and accessibility to the floor of Bryce Canyon was better.  Not everyone wants to hike to the bottom of a Canyon but if you are inclined to do something like that then Bryce is the place to do it.  Don't get me wrong, Grand Canyon is also fantastic and worth the trip.  Accessibility is limited due to its vastness and depth.  Bryce, on the other hand, allows for an up close and personal experience.

One PSA about Bryce Canyon.  The altitude can impact.  At 7700+ feet, the air is thinner and can cause headache, nausea, dehydration and other symptoms of altitude sickness.  Just be aware and stay hydrated.  We hiked like crazy folks but, in hindsight, I think we both had moments where we felt a bit cruddy due to the altitude.

Back to moving day.

We got up and decided to go for a short run before packing and heading out.  A little exercise before driving is always nice.

With a few miles under our belts, we returned to the RV, packed up, cleaned up and we were on our way.

The first 60 or so miles of our journey took us over a significant mountain pass so I followed in Clark.  We stayed together and hooked up to tow once we got over the mountain.

The rest of our trip was good.  We still had hills to conquer but we were on I15 and all went well.  We exited the Interstate at a Provo exit and cut through an amazing mountain pass to get to Heber City.

The road that runs through this pass also runs along a river and the river was raging.  The winter's snowpack is still melting and it has the creeks and rivers moving dangerously fast.

We got to River's Edge and quickly got set up.  Our site is a little rustic but nice and big and very peaceful.  Neither of us is thrilled that the campground is located in a box canyon.  It sits at the base of an active dam which holds back a huge reservoir.  Other than that, it is a very nice place to camp.

We spent the rest of Sunday taking it easy.  We had been extremely active at Bryce and we were tired.  We did take a short walk along the river that runs close to the campground.  It too is raging.   The release spillway is only a few hundred yards away and it is wide open.

IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE IT IS DOING MUCH BUT IT IS.  IT IS RUNNING MUCH FASTER, DEEPER AND WIDER THAN USUAL.

While we were on our walk, we came across two guys schlepping their kayaks up the trail.  Their kayaks were small, hard plastic and minus girdles.  I was trying to imagine how they could possibly have navigated the river.  We asked them how it was and they were quick to respond that they did not make it very far before sinking one of the kayaks.  They said they were lucky to get out.  I did not see any life jackets or paddles so I guess they did get lucky.  Boys.....

Rob and I drove into Park City and had dinner at a restaurant on Historic Main Street.  Park City is charming but obviously expensive.  Summer is probably a great time to get a good look at the area.

Monday was a bit of an admin day.  Rob took care of some business and I went grocery shopping.  

After a morning of boring but very necessary chores, we loaded the girls and went in search of a hike.  It was unseasonably warm and after a botched attempt to hike on a very hot trail, we decided to just go for a ride and maybe find a place for Penny Lane to swim.

The swim was a good cooling off for everyone.  Penny got good and wet and Annie watched from the shoreline.

After the swim break, we decided to drive up the mountain to Empire Pass.  It was much cooler and there was still snow on the ground.

We drove down the other side of the road to Empire Pass and I must say that the Aspen Trees are gorgeous.  The white bark with the new green leaves against a blue sky make for quite a landscape.

We made our way home and the rest of the day was spent relaxing.
